Relevant Expertise for the project:

Atlas Copco is worldwide market leader for air compressors and has a strong focus on service. A substantial share of its revenues is generated by service (36% for the Compressor Technique business area in 2013 compared to 58% from equipment sales). Additional to product innovation, Atlas Copco invests substantial effort in service innovation. Atlas Copco already has a track record of more than 10 years in connecting compressors for remote monitoring. Today its SMARTiink solution connects already thousands of compressors and the ambition is to grow substantially in the future. We have extensive experience in connectivity, data mining, condition monitoring and business development related to maintenance services. In this project more than 10 employees with relevant expertise will be directly involved and others indirectly (amongst several Phd’s). We already have expertise in working on related topics with a.o. FMTC and KU Leuven.

Role in the project:

In the MANTIS project, Atlas Copco will develop of a ”health map” for connected compressors that supports decision making for maintenance services. The topics we will work on : • Service platform architecture : application of this on a large scale industrial network of connected compressors (WP1). • Smart sensing and data acquisition + analysis and decision making : using machine learning techniques for some of the intelligence ’under the hood’ of this health map (WP3 + WP4). • HMI design and development : visualisation of information for the ”health map” (WP5).

Ilias Solutions n.v. (ILIAS)

ILIAS Solutions is a Brussels based SME. ILIAS Solutions is a SW development company, specialised in information management solutions to support defence and humanitarian aid operations. Our software platforms are centred on the optimisation of operational readiness, and based upon the management of the resources required for those operations.

Relevant Expertise for the project:

ILIAS Solutions consists of an effective team of technical experts in the development, implementation and maintenance of software systems, with experience in managing complex and sensitive assets maintenance and logistics systems. Our team possesses a wide variety of skills ranging from business analysis, process improvement and project management to software development, testing, training, maintenance and help desk services.

Role in the project:

Our main contributions will fall under WP4+WP5, where we will provide development and analysis competences, however we will need to keep ourselves involved/informed on especially the WP1+WP2. We could also be involved in WP8 and take the findings to MRO and Defence Logistics conferences as Key note speakers

Sirris c.d.g. (SIRRIS)

Sirris is a private collective research centre founded in 1949 by Agoria, the multi-sector federation for the Belgian technology industry. Sirris has about 2500 member companies, which range from small and medium-sized businesses to multinational companies (¿95% SMEs), active in 13 technological sectors including Information & Communication Technology. Its mission is to improve the competitiveness of its member companies through technology and innovation. Sirris has currently about 140 employees focusing on knowledge acquisition (applied research) and knowledge transfer (industrial projects). The subdivision ICT & Mechatronics of Sirris will participate in MANTIS.

Relevant Expertise for the project:

Within Sirris ICT & Mechatronics, the expertise with relation to advanced data processing is bundled in the Data Innovation team, a small group (6 team members, all with PhD degree) of highly qualified experts who participate in industry-driven research projects in collaboration with national and international partners (e.g. 6 ARTEMIS projects). The team has set up several industry-driven research programs through which it has created a broad network of international research and industrial partners. Through these projects, the team has acquired extensive knowledge in various areas related to topics such as scalable data processing, complex event processing, pro-active and context-sensitive decision support, user profiling and modelling. Through participation in these projects, the team has created a broad network of international research and industrial partners, such as for example Fundaci´on Tekniker, ST Microelectronics, Tecnalia, ATOS, Tampere University of Technology, Philips, Thales, Institut Polytechnique de Bordeaux, Technical University of Sofia and TNO. On national level, the team has established very successful collaborations with several different academic organisations in Belgium e.g. iMinds, ULB, VUB, UGent, KULeuven, KAHO St. Lieven, etc.

Role in the project:

In MANTIS, Sirris will:

  • contribute to the definition of the service platform architecture (WP1) and to the development of several of its components (WP2), most notably:
    • distributed data storage components for storing large amounts of (historical) data obtained from heterogeneous sources
    • distributed stream-based data processing for supporting (near-)real-time anomaly detection
    • batch-oriented data processing for building predictive models based on trend and pattern detection in historical data.
  • explore the use of semantic technology for integration, harmonisation and standardisation of heterogeneous data, e.g. operational data, maintenance and event logs, external data sources such as ERP systems, etc. (WP4)
  • apply advanced data processing algorithms for knowledge discovery, e.g. temporal data mining algorithms (e.g. sequential pattern mining, temporal association rules, …) for discovering root cause failures and events that co-occur in a certain order, probabilistic modelling approaches (e.g. Bayesian networks) for discovering complex relationships between the different events and for predicting asset failure, multi-criteria decision analysis for collaborative decision making, etc. (WP4)
  • validate the developed approaches, methodologies and resulting models in specific use cases

With installed wind turbines in 73 countries around the world, Vestas has considerable experience in all the key disciplines – engineering, transportation, construction and operations and maintenance. The projects have covered every kind of site, from high altitude to extreme weather conditions and monitoring and performance diagnostics is performed on the world’s largest fleet of wind turbines.

Universal Foundation A/S (UNIV)

For nearly a decade Universal Foundation A/S, formerly known as MBD, has been developing a special type of monopod foundation structure. After intensive scale experiments and innovative processes, a full scale bucket was successfully installed in Frederikshavn in 2002 with a Vestas V90-3.0 MW wind turbine. In 2009, a foundation for a met mast was installed in Horns Rev 2. The same year, Universal Foundation A/S entered the Carbon Trust competition; ‘The Bucket Foundation’ ended up in the final top 3 for the most innovative, cost-effective and robust foundation design among 100 participants.

Relevant Expertise for the project:

Universal Foundation has high expertise in maintanence of wind turbines and their foundation. The company possesses deep insight into market conditions as well as into how weather conditions affect the service and maintenance of wind turbines. Also, it has a long experience on logistics planning for off shore wind farms – both with respect to establishment and maintenance.

Role in the project:

Universal Foundation will mainly contribute to the use-case on off-shore energy production and in particular to the planning of maintenance including the logistics planning of maintenance. The company will from the start of the project deliver historical data from its costumer data base and later on real-time data

Danfoss A/S (DANFOSS)

The company was founded in 1933 in Nordborg, Denmark, where it remains headquartered. Danfoss’s wide range of products and services are used in areas such as cooling food, air conditioning, heating buildings, controlling electric motors and powering mobile machinery. The company is also active in the field of solar and wind power as well as district heating and cooling infrastructure that targets entire cities and urban communities.

Relevant Expertise for the project:

Danfoss has a long expertise in product maintenance. Danfoss business unit “Heating solutions” are a global market leader within components for climate control of buildings. Danfoss supplies solutions that generate, distribute and regulate heat in commercial and residential buildings. The product portfolio includes thermostats, floor heating, heat pumps, heat recovery ventilation systems as well as components for oil burners and electrical heating systems – all important elements in creating intelligent and energy-efficient indoor climate solutions.

Role in the project:

Aalborg university (AAU)

ted in 1974, Aalborg University (AAU) is the youngest Danish University with 18.000 students and a pedagogical structure based on problem-centered, real-life projects of educational and research relevance. The university is a member of The European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU), which consists of 10 innovative European universities whose purposes are the exchange of experience and the development of new projects within education, research and regional development. Participation in MANTIS is done by the center for Embedded Software Systems (CISS) and the research group on Reliability and Risk Analysis which together include 20 senior researchers, 12 postdocs and 15 PhD students. The groups have a long experience in management of European and National projects.

Relevant Expertise for the project:

The AAU team is internationally known for its work on models for wind turbine operation & maintenance, decision making and optimal energy planning. The results include models for uncertainties of turbine blade design, reliability assessments of turbines and substructures, models for drivetrain components as well as models for energy optimisation. The UPPAAL tool is the standard academic tool for analysis of probabilistic models, and it has been applied in a number of industrial and European projects for modelling of complex systems. The team is key partner in a number of related EU projects like e.g. ARTEMIS Arrowhead, FP7 FET CASSTING, Interreg POWER CLUSTER.

Role in the project:

AAU will contribute to the work of WP4 on root failure analysis and remaining life identification. Also, AAU will play a major role in the off-shore use-case where the WP4 results will be applied on real prototypical data in order to perform an optimal trade-off between energy optimisation and system availability.

Wapice Ltd. (WAPICE)

Relevant Expertise for the project:

As a software vendor Wapice has the expertise regarding the key technologies for the development of service platform for maintenance including data warehousing, remote monitoring and diagnosis. Through the wide customer contacts Wapice has good knowledge of the market need in many industrial and commercial service sectors.

Role in the project:

Wapice is developing a remote management platform that enables operational efficiency and business model innovation for industrial companies. The platform supports supervisory monitoring, control, automation and advanced reporting functionalities. By adapting industrial standards the platform allows efficient condition, maintenance and reliability management. Being big data enabled analyzing large amount of historical data is easier than ever. Utilizing the WRM Terminal unit, other 3rd party systems or communicating directly using OPC UA, REST or similar communication standard the internet of things is becoming reality and WRM positioned at the heart of it. By developing the analysis and decision making algorithms, big data analysis tools and data mining techniques it is possible to provide a really unique tool for condition monitoring purposes which is able to serve versatile business needs. By further developing the reporting tools and creating scalable, re-usable and cross-platform compatible interfaces to access data and analysis results, human to machine interaction can be optimised and user experience and service willingness improved. The main focus will be in WP4 and additionally contribution to WP7. In WP4 Wapice shall develop statistical tools required to post-process the gathered data. These include for example support for running statistical languages in server context and implementing suitable analysis and decision making algorithms for post-processing the data. Important task for Wapice is also development of reporting tools for providing analysis results in sensible and user-friendly format. This includes for example automatic report generation, user experience and report accessibility related tasks. In WP7 Wapice demonstrates the analysis and decision making tools implemented in WP4 together with other showcase partners.

Role in the project:

The special aim of Solteq is to develop extended service management solutions to support customer companies´ operational activities, processes and utilisation of various data sources in decision making and analysis, and the adaptive fleet management solutions with shared architecture and information models. The main focus in Mantis program is to build up the data processing models for extended Internet of Things based service offering and to build up interoperable interfaces with emerging data streams and existing solutions (ERP, EAM, CMMS).

Key problems identified:

  • Cloud based computing, mobility and social networks challenges the current business models.
  • Internet of Things opens new data streams that cannot be exploited by traditional ICT systems.
  • Customers look for new service offering that supports better the global value networks in service business.

Problem solving roadmap and the main topics to be developed by Solteq are:

  • Development of models and methods for enterprise asset and service business management in the framework of IoT.
  • Develop model and methods for optimisation of customer specific maintenance service program in the framework of IoT to achieve required availability and safety with minimum costs.
  • Development of RAMS ( Realiability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety ) and EAM integration in the framework of IoT to achieve new information service based business models.

Desired outcomes by Solteq are:

  • Extended asset and service management software functionalities based on combined data is described, tested and validated.
  • Methods for information integration and utilisation of various data sources and data streams are developed and validated.
